Ade Kusuma

Ade Kusuma is a lecturer of the Communication Science Dept on UPN Veteran Jawa Timur, since 2010. She had been head of photography, film, and advertising laboratory in 2011-2016. She is an associate editor Journal of Community Service and State Defense (JABN) and she is an editorial team of the Communication Science Journal (JKom). In addition to a lecture and researcher, she is also actively participating as a program director in pilem Q-ta: (Independent Film Community in Surabaya). She has been producing short films and web series. From 2012 until now, she is one of the selection committee in Piala Maya (Maya Awards is an annual Indonesian film award organized by @FILM_Indonesia and Indonesian film enthusiasts)

Ms. Kusuma has a research interest in gender and film studies. She received a bachelor’s degree in Communication Science from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jawa Timur (2007), and she earned a Master of Communication and Media Studies from Airlangga University (2010). Both of her thesis focuses on Women and Patriarchal Culture in Indonesia Films. She has also written an article on Family Identity in Indonesian Films (presented at International Conference on Identity, Culture, and Communication in Hongkong, 2014), and Man Identity in Indonesian Drama Films, Post New Order Era (presented at the Asia Pacific Social Sciences Conference in Nagoya Japan, 2015). Her most recent work focuses on women entrepreneurs and gender harmony, i.e., Portrait of Gender Harmony in Urban Families (2018), Women Entrepreneur and Gender Harmony in Urban Communities (2018), Rural Women Entrepreneur in Digital Era (2020). She is currently doing research focuses on Fandom and Social Impact in Digital Era.
